  • It saves time without the need to insert card and enter PIN.
  • There is no need to search for cash and coins.
  • The funds are debited directly out of your FI account.

Interac Flash is trusted and secure.

  • It comes with Interac Zero Liability Policy — this means you will receive 100% reimbursement of funds if you happen to lose your card or if it gets stolen.
  • Interac Flash is built using the highest security available for contactless payments protecting it from electronic pick-pocketing attacks.
  • There are other unique safety features that are built into the card. We have set a $100 limit per Interac Flash purchase. This means, a single Interac Flash purchase cannot exceed $100. On top of that, there is a cumulative spend limit. Once this limit is reached (regardless of time in which it is reached), the cardholder will be asked to insert their card and enter their PIN to complete the transaction, thereby further protecting the cardholder if the card is lost or stolen. The cumulative spend limit for TMECU is $200 and others is $100.

Interac Flash is easy to use.

FAQs

What is Interac Flash?

Interac Flash® is a contactless way of using Interac® Debit. It is a fast, secure and convenient way to pay for everyday purchases instantly from your credit union account without signing for a purchase or entering a PIN.

How does Interac Flash work?

Look for the Flash symbol on your Interac debit card to know if it has Interac Flash. An Interac Flash purchase involves two steps:

  • Cardholders hold their card in front of the terminal or reader.
  • A beep and/or “approved” message on the terminal will acknowledge the cardholder’s purchase is complete.

When cardholders use Interac Flash, their purchases will automatically be debited from your accounts.

Is Interac Flash safe?

Yes, it is. There are several security features in place that ensure Interac debit cards enabled with Interac Flash are safe. Interac Flash leverages secure chip processing. This protects Interac Flash against skimming, counterfeiting, and transaction replay types of fraud, including electronic pick-pocketing. Interac Flash technology protects your card from being copied and counterfeited. Another layer of safety comes from limits set on your Interac debit card enabled with Interac Flash. The maximum amount per purchase is $100. On top of that, there is a cumulative spend limit. Once this limit is reached

(regardless of time in which it is reached), you will be asked to insert your card and enter your PIN to complete the transaction. The cumulative spend limit for some FIs is $200 and others is $100.

Are there any other consumer protections in place?

Consumers are fully protected with Interac Zero Liability Policy that allows for 100% reimbursement of funds if you happen to lose your card or if it gets stolen. Remember to contact your FI right away.

How will I track the purchases I’ve made using Interac Flash?

Each transaction will be itemized on your FI statement.

Will I be able to get receipts?

Yes, you will get receipts just the way you do today with Interac Debit purchases.

Which merchants offer Interac Flash?

When making Point of Sale (POS) purchases, look for the Flash symbol on card reader. Tap your debit card to the reader and wait for a beep or for the screen to say approved.

What if I don’t want Interac Flash?

If a member does not want to use Interac Flash, they do not have to activate Flash.  To activate Interac Flash, the member must tap the reader and will receive a prompt to insert their card and enter their PIN. The use of the correct PIN after tapping the reader activates Flash. Members who do not want to use Flash can avoid this step and use their card by inserting it into the card reader, as usual.
